The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and California labor law require all California employers to visibly display an approved California minimum wage poster and other federal and California labor law posters, to ensure that all employees are aware of federal labor law and California and overtime regulations. The minimum wage applies to most employees in California, with limited exceptions including tipped employees, some student workers, and other exempt occupations. Employers must ensure that the wage rate is shown on the employee's pay stub and that employees are paid at least the minimum wage, even when employees are paid piecework. However, the minimum wage in California is not the same as a living wage, or the approximate income that families need to pay their bills.
