After starting organized emigration to California John Marsh was involved in a military battle between Mexican general Manuel Micheltorena and Juan Bautista Alvarado who Micheltorena had replaced as governor of California. California is also home to such notable private universities as Stanford University, University of Southern California, California Institute of Technology and Claremont Colleges. The state's coasts rivers and other bodies of water are regulated by The California Coastal Commission. This revolt by U.
S settlers served as a prelude to subsequent U. S military invasion of California which was closely coordinated with nearby U. S military commanders. The legend goes that there was an island called California inhabited only by black women without any men among them living like Amazons.
